UCLEAR HBC200 Force Helmet Headset & Bluetooth® Intercom
UCLEAR HBC200 Force motorcycle helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom offers basic communication features utilizing the mobile phone network and the Bluetooth® 2.1 EDR technology with the fellow riders. The HBC200 intercom supports multiple wireless connections, pairing with cross brand intercoms and conference talking in a group of motorcyclists. The range between direct intercom connections are well beyond the line of sight and the HBC200 transmits the communication via several headsets close to 7kms or 4 miles. From the rider entertainment and navigation point of view, the HBC200 could be connected wirelessly to a MP3 player and a GPS navigator, but there are no FM radio features. The HBC200 differs from the competition by having no microphone boom in front of the mouth. The mic is integrated in the HiFi stereo speakers which means simplified installation, higher functionality in use and a quick switch between helmets when necessary. The UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom has intelligent noise cancellation and voice filtering features which increase talking clarity in loud conditions.
The housing of the UCLEAR HBC200 Force motorcycle helmet headset and biker intercom is officially water resistant. Probably due to the speaker and charging socket at the rear end. The speaker plug has small ribs to seal the connection which makes the package clearly solid. The HBC200 offers 400 hours StandBy and 10 hours talk time. If the HBC200 is not connected to other devices and it has not been used, it will automatically shutdown in 10 minutes. If the intercom connections have been disconnected, the system will shutdown automatically in 2 hours. When the battery runs low, the LED indicator flashes twice RED every 2 seconds and the rider hears a beep every minute. When the HBC200 is connected to the charger, the firmware will ensure that the power is OFF. The UCLEAR HBC200 Force motorcycle helmet headset and biker intercom uses an independent volume control for each mode and an automatic speaker loudness control according to the noise level in question. Although this does no apply for the music.
UCLEAR HBC200 Force Helmet Headset & Bluetooth® Intercom Features
The UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom can be paired wirelessly to mobile phones easily by pressing the UP and DOWN buttons for 2 seconds until the indicator LED flashes RED and BLUE alternately. Then initiate search for new Bluetooth® devices with the mobile phone and select the HBC200 from the list. In most of the cases that`s all you need to do and the HBC200 is able to reconnect automatically with the mobile phones which makes the use very simple. The UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom has 2 audio profiles and a voice activation call pickup feature. A Bluetooth® hands free profile – HFP allows to activate calls, redial the last number, put calls on hold and utilize speech dial with the phonebook. A Bluetooth® hands free support profile – HSP enables few simple controls including the ability to ring, answer a call, hang up and adjust the volume.
The UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom offers versatile mobile phone communication features. When a call comes in answering can be done simply by saying out loud ”Hello” or ”PickUp”, but also by pressing the ANSWER button. The HBC200 supports also 3 way calling which comes handy for a lot of riders. While having already one call on and a new one ringing, by pressing the ANSWER button the new caller would be connected and the forgoing call put automatically on hold. By pressing the ANSWER button for 2 seconds the active call would be finished and the second on hold activated. Note that the UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom does not support cell phone conference calls directly from the control unit and they should be operated with the mobile phone. A last number redial could be used by pressing the UP and ANSWER buttons for 2 seconds.
The UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom offers wireless communication between 2 devices up to a range of 700 meters or 0.4 miles on an open field. The HBC200 could be paired with 2-10 intercoms in a row forming a single conference group. Changes in the group configuration require another pairing cycle. The HBC200 utilizes so called Multi-HOP® technology (master & slave) to link intercoms and conversations at least between 10 units which means that the maximum distance to the most distant group member could be more than 6 kms or 4 miles. That would be more than enough in practice. Fortunately the UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom could be paired with other brands too and the Bluetooth® 2.1 EDR technology allows to pair also with the first and the third generation Bluetooth® intercom devices. Nevertheless cross brand pairing means also that only the HBC200 could initiate and end the intercom sessions, but that`s unavoidable with different kind of firmware solutions.
The UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom offers 2 kind of group options to support individual preferences in a large group of motorcyclist. Basically this feature serves ideally when riding with a passenger, having close friends in the group and needing more privacy a long the road. The standard HBC200 pairing cycle forms a general conference group of intercoms and the members can form additionally one or more private groups inside the general group. This would be made by pairing one more cycle among the private group members. Each private group can have 2 or more members and the switch between the common and the private group would be made simply by pressing the ANSWER button shortly. The UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom group features are very useful when spending more time in a bunch of bikers, but it requires co-ordinated pairing which can be a little bit too much to ask for shorter rides.
The UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom has 2 Bluetooth® profiles to support MP3 and music streaming wirelessly. Note that the only cable socket in the control unit is used to connect the speakers. MP3 player pairing can be made by pressing the UP and ANSWER buttons for 2 seconds and activating the music player paring mode from the device. The connection should be formed automatically and the HBC200 is able to reconnect automatically with most of the MP3 players. A Bluetooth® multimedia A2DP profile streams the stereo audio from the device and an AVRCP profile handles the basic music controls such as play, stop, skip forward and back directly from the control unit. Further controls are available only in the music player itself. The entertainment mode has the lowest priority and incoming mobile phone and intercom calls will stop the music and activate the call. By pressing the DOWN button for 2 seconds, the intercom would be switched off and the music would resume automatically. The HBC200 could be paired also with GPS navigators, but in some cases the mobile phone may need to be paired with the GPS and not directly with the HBC200 in order to be at service.
The installation of the UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom can be done using 2 different kind of mounting brackets which is in some of the cases necessary. A rubberized mounting bracket would be good for more or less temporary installations and quick switches between helmets. The spring steel type of clip is all over rubberized which offers the best possible grip on the shell of the helmet. 2 removable handles ensure a trouble free installation of the temporary bracket as long as the helmet interior elements and the cheek pad is not blocking the way for the clamp to enter behind the shell. Therefore the HBC200 comes with another and more permanent mounting option which allows to tape a metal bracket on the shell surface. A double sided 3M Scotch® tape makes sure that the bracket holds up. I installed the UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom onto a SHOEI Hornet ADV Seeker TC6 helmet which allows to use both bracket options and reserves enough room for the speakers. I chose to use the permanent option which allows also to place the control unit more freely on the helmet.
The HiFi stereo speakers of the UCLEAR HBC200 Force helmet headset and Bluetooth® intercom are quick to install by using VELCRO® fasteners, but the speakers must be symmetrically lined up at the same angle.
